CONSTRUCTION:  Machined Aluminum, Anodized (Hard Black)

BACKGROUND:  Original design by Atari in 1975.  Used on just about every classic machine built by Atari throughout the 70's and 80's.  Original part was short aluminum.  Later, around 1979, Atari anodized the short aluminum in black.  Around the same time, Atari introduced the tall plastic and short plastic versions to cut manufacturing costs.  The early plastic versions had a smooth, shiny finish much like the previous anodized aluminum version.  Later plastic revision had a textured finish.  Reproduction units produced by several vendors over the last decade which include both hand cast plastic and anodized aluminum.  Has been out of production by Atari for over a decade.  In recent times, the demand for a new reproduction cones has been steadily growing due to an enormous number of broken, missing and melted parts and lack of source for NOS parts..

CONSTRUCTION NOTES:
(Last Updated 07/01/06)

Our design is an exact replica of the original anodized aluminum parts which Atari used in their early machines.  This includes all three versions:  short aluminum, short black, tall black.  All three of our versions are made from machined aluminum stock, tapped to exact spec, polished and anodized.  Both the short and tall black cones are hard black anodized.  Hard black anodizing offers an additional level of coating which is not likely to "rub off" as normal anodizing is prone to.  In other words, these are quality parts with a tough, sleek finish.  Compared to NOS anodized counterparts, ours are actually better looking.

Design was very simple and based on original Atari engineering drawings and having NOS parts in hand to compare with.

These are aluminum parts and are not prone to abuse issues that the plastic counterparts are well known for.  These will not melt or crack.

All three type of cones are available now.  Additionally, the mating switches are also available in both LED (lighted) and non-LED (non-lighted) versions.
