GENERAL QUESTIONS:
Q: Why
should I buy your product?
A: Because we produce quality
products and stand behind each and every sale. Oh, and nobody else
currently produces a comparable product line.
Q: What
does "RAM" stand for in "RAM Controls"
A: RAM stands for "Retro
Arcade Machine"
Q: Why
do you only make controls for Atari games? Why not anything else?
A; The owners are collectors of
Atari Games and want to focus on a single brand for now. But, that's
no indication that we won't look into producing controls for other brands,
we're just not there yet. In fact, if you look at the product
line-up you will note several "placeholders" for non-Atari controllers
and artwork.
Q: Can
I purchase directly from your company?
A; Sure, visit our order
page. Alternatively, you may contact one of our vendors and
purchase through them if you'd like.
Q: Is
there a minimum order?
A: Currently, we do not
have a minimum order requirement.
Q: What
payment methods do you accept?
A: We accept most payment methods,
including: Visa, Mastercard, Discover, Paypal, check (company,
personal, cashiers) or money order. Please note that we may choose
to hold check/money order payments for up to 7 days before processing orders.
Some of our vendors may offer you credit terms.
Q:
Will you ship COD?
A:
We will ship COD for established customers. We do not currently ship
COD for new customers.
Q: I
want to get listed on your links page, how can I do that?
A: We only list companies and
people we've done business with and like. However, send us your info
and we'll consider adding you.
Q: I
have a problem with one of the companies you have on your links
page. Do you care?
A: Sure we care. Send the
specifics over and we'll take it into consideration. Each company or
person we list is highly recommended and we would like to suggest that you
contact them directly if you have an issue with them. It's almost a
guarantee that they will resolve your issue quickly.
Q: Do
you have a catalog?
A: No, we do not currently
have a catalog. This may change in the future, however.
In the meantime, please check out our products page.
Q: If
I receive a defective item, what do I do?
A: First and foremost,
contact us and explain the issue and we will respond to your
query within 1 business day. We may be able to resolve your problem
without a return. However, if unsuccessful, please return the
defective item to the vendor you purchased the controller from. If
you purchased directly from us, you will need to return it to us.
Q: I
have a product idea, who can I talk to about it?
A: Anyone here at RAM
Controls can
talk to you about possible product ideas. FYI, we would like to focus our
efforts on replacement parts for Atari games, but we will consider
anything.
Q: How
quickly will my order be processed?
A: If you order through us
and pay by credit card or paypal, your order will be processed same day or next
business day. Payment by check and money order may be delayed up to
7 days. We ship everything through UPS Blue (2nd Day) or Red (Next
Day), so no PO Boxes please. Note: On occasion, we may use UPS
3-day or Ground service for large orders. You will be notified of
this before we ship. If you order through one of our vendors, please
check with them on their order processing terms.
Q:
Do you offer discounts for volume purchases?
A:
Absolutely. If you're considering reselling our product line, we
offer automatic discounts to our vendors. We also offer volume
discounts to customers who purchase a minimum quantity of 10 pieces of any
single item. If you'd like to place a large purchase, please contact
us before your purchase.
Q: Can
I receive tax exemption for resale?
A: Absolutely! Send
in a copy of your resale certificate.
Q: Do
you ship outside of the U.S.
A: Yes, we ship anywhere
in the world. We use UPS services for all shipments, both domestic
and international.
Q: What
shipping method do you use?
A: We generally ship UPS
Red (next day) and UPS Blue (2nd Day), but we may use 3-day or Ground
service for large (ie: very heavy) orders at our discretion.
Q: Do
you provide tracking information?
A: Absolutely!
UPS tracking is the best!
Q: I
ordered something from you, but I don't have it yet, What should I
do?
A: Always contact us if
there is an issue of any type. Once you place an order, generally, you should
have it within 3-4 business days at most. If you do not receive an
order within this timeframe, your first action should be to contact us
immediately so we can determine the issue and resolve it.
MAJOR HAVOC CONTROLLER QUESTIONS:
Q: I
purchased a Major Havoc Roller Controller from Basement Arcade a few years
back, are your parts compatible with it?
A: For the most part, yes
the parts are compatible with some possible exceptions. The Basement
Arcade roller assembly is based on the same original design ours is based
upon, so it's only natural that some, if not most, of the parts are
interchangeable. The metal shafts *may* not be compatible but we
cannot know for sure without having a sample unit to test our parts on.
Q: Will
your encoder and idler shafts from your Major Havoc controller work on an
original OEM roller controller?
A: No, they will not work,
but we do produce encoder and idler shafts specifically designed for the
OEM roller controller.
Q: Will
your plastic translucent roller for Major Havoc work in the OEM controller
and/or the other reproduction controllers?
A: Yes, our translucent
roller is designed to drop into all roller controller assemblies,
including the OEM unit and the Basement Arcade unit as well as our own.
Q: I
want to use your anodized aluminum top plate on my reproduction roller
controller from Basement Arcade. Will it work?
A: Yes, it will work in
this application.
Q: You
keep saying OEM translucent roller. What does that mean?
A: The translucent roller
that we use on our reproduction roller controller is an EXACT match of the
original roller, produced by the very same company that manufactured the
original one in 1984. So, it's OEM (Original Equipment
Manufacturer). You can't get any better than this, folks.
Q: Will
your roller light up like the original one does?
A: Absolutely! It's
OEM, so it's an exact replacement for the original. This is one of
our major improvements over previously made reproduction roller
controllers.
Q: I
have one of those oil impregnated cast nylon rollers, is yours better?
A: As far as function
goes, they're nearly identical. As far as looks go, ours is an exact
replacement for the original.
Q: Do
you supply replacement parts for your reproduction roller controller?
A: Absolutely. We
have an extensive supply of replacement parts available.
Q: Does
your roller controller come with a Happ Controls encoder board, in-house
produced encoder board or Atari encoder board?
A: Currently, our
controllers come with a Happ Controls encoder board as standard.
Q: Will
this controller fit correctly in the Major Havoc control panel?
A: Yes, we have tested
this to ensure it's a perfect fit.
Q: I
have a Space Duel, Gravitar, Blackwidow or Tempest conversion Major
Havoc. Will your control work on these?
A: If the original control
panel has been unaltered, no this controller will not fit in the
panel. However, Archer Maclean has produced a replacement control
panel which will mount this controller. You can find him at (www.ionpool.net)
He produces excellent quality products.
MISSILE COMMAND MAXI-TRAKBALL QUESTIONS:
Q: Will
this fit correctly in my control panel?
A: Yes, this unit has been
tested in UR (Upright) and CP (Cockpit) models to ensure a correct fit.
Q: Everyone,
including Atari, refers to the ball as 4" in size. Are you sure
4.5" is the correct size?
A: Absolutely! The
correct ball diameter is 4.5" and all documentation referring to the
diameter as 4" is incorrect. We're not sure why Atari referred
to it as 4" when it's clearly not 4" in size. We have researched this topic
thoroughly and guarantee that our reproduction is a perfect match for the
original. In fact, the ball we offer is actually manufactured by the
original manufacturer used to make the original ball, so it's a perfect
match.
Q: Can
I purchase the ball all by itself? I have a working control, but I
would like a brand new ball for it.
A: Yes, we make the
individual ball (as well as the other components of this controller)
available separately.
Q: Are
your reproduction parts interchangeable with the original controller made
by Atari?
A: Yes. All of the
reproduction parts are an exact match to the original, so every component
is interchangeable.
Q: I've
never seen a brand new Maxi-Trakball before, is it supposed to be glossy?
A: In the late 70's, when
the Maxi-Trackball was first put into production for Atari Football, the
machines had "glossy" trak-balls. Over time, the luster of
the ball would fade and leave a matte/satin finish in its place. New
balls have not been available for many, many years, so most people believe
the original balls were not glossy. Of course, this isn't
true. So, yes, brand new trak-balls are supposed to be glossy.
Q: Is
the ball made out of the same material as the original?
A: Yes, the ball is made
from the exact same material as the original which means it's the same
weight for it's size.
Q: Yeah,
but will it perform like the original ball?
A: Yes.
Absolutely. The ball is made by the OEM, so it's an exact production
item. Same material, same weight, same size, same tolerances, etc.
Q: I
need one of the optic boards to repair my trak-ball unit. Will yours
fit on an original trak-ball unit?
A: Absolutely. It's
an exact replica of the original optic board and will mount on an original
trak-ball unit.
Q: Who
makes the encoder board?
A: We do. It's an
in-house produced replica of the original.
Q: Will
your reproduction encoder shafts install on an original trak-ball unit?
A: Absolutely. These
are exact replacement parts. They can be used on our reproduction
unit or an original unit just the same.
